As the Technical Director for the NAVSEA Surface Ship Designs Group, Captain Norbert Doerry has helped to shape the Navy’s surface Fleet through technical direction of the design and specifications for many surface ships. Additionally, he has profoundly influenced the development and effectiveness of the ship design workforce through his personal leadership and through development of improved design tools and processes.
Captain Doerry’s determination and superior creativity in the application of new and innovative ship design methods and tools are dramatically improving the Requirements Determination, Concept Design and Concept Selection phases of the Naval Ship Acquisition Process. These efforts have significantly reduced study duration, increased throughput, and provided timely and more technically meaningful information to senior Navy leadership.
A pioneer and visionary, Captain Doerry is a driving force behind revitalizing the professional development of ship design managers through the publication and implementation of a Ship Design Manager Career Development Model and he was the principal author and instructor for the NAVSEA Warship Design Course.
Captain Doerry has consistently demonstrated an ability to conceive, develop and implement far reaching improvements in both Ship Design and Power Systems and he is truly deserving of the 2008 ASNE Gold Medal Award.
