Special Exhibits at ASNE Day!
Special Displays in the ASNE Day Exhibit Hall and National Harbor Waterfront

Attendees at ASNE Day 2009 will have the opportunity to view six assets from the Navy Expeditionary Overwatch (NEO) initiative.
The NEO capability is a Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren-Office of Naval Research (ONR) initiative to provide state of the art communications, sensor and engagement platforms to warfighters on the ground as well as in the littorals. NEO consists of air, land and sea vehicles linked to a central control station over a common communications network.
The vehicles on display inside the ASNE Day 2009 Exhibit Hall and outside at the National Harbor Waterfront will include:
- Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Scan Eagle
- Gunslinger 3 (GS3) – on HMMWV
- Two Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV)
- Super Wedge Launcher for UAV
- SkyHook Lift Retrieval System for UAV
Additionally, see Human Powered Submarines from the 10th International Submarine Races, and daily First Robotics Demonstrations. Both of these activities feature aspiring High School and College Engineers.
There will also be a U.S. Coast Guard Over The Horizon (OTH) vehicle in the ASNE Day 2009 Exhibit Hall.
Symposium Overview
As Admiral Gary Roughead, USN, Chief of Naval Operations, recently said: “If you are working on something and it doesn’t tie to the capabilities of the Maritime Strategy, you should be asking serious questions about what you’re working on because the strategy lays out our plan for the future.”
In response to evolving trends, our nation’s Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard have jointly promulgated “A Cooperative Strategy for the 21st Century Seapower.” That strategy envisions changes in the way our Sea Services are constituted, employed and sustained. It contemplates increased interoperability with maritime forces of other nations. ASNE Day 2009 seeks to explore how these changes and related efforts will impact naval engineering by discussing: what technical areas must be emphasized to enable and support this strategy; what are the implications for the way future naval engineers are educated and developed; and what improvements are needed in naval engineering tools and processes?
Please plan to join us April 8-9, 2009 at the Gaylord National Hotel as we discuss the issues surrounding "Naval Engineering in Support of the 21st Century Maritime Strategy." We will also explore the Department of Defense National Defense Strategy as it applies to naval engineering.
Please consider joining the American Society of Naval Engineers and help advocate for naval engineering. We hope to see you at ASNE Day 2009. |
